The catch on the hook: bdia online seminar with Jürgen Schwerter
On February 6, 2024, Jürgen Schwerter hosted an exciting online seminar entitled "The hook on the hook" in cooperation with the bdia (Association of German Interior Designers). In this seminar, the speaker shed light on various aspects of the coat hook, from its history and design to its technical implementation and sociological significance. He also explained which aspects need to be considered during installation.

The seminar offered participants a comprehensive insight into the world of hooks. Schwerter began with an introduction to the history of coat rack design and presented the most important manufacturers and retailers. He then explained the background to the design of the Iserlohn hooks and discussed the difference between architecture and design.
Another focus of the seminar was on the holistic approach to hook design.
Schwerter showed how hooks can be used not only as functional objects, but can also be used as design elements. He presented various examples of how hooks can tell stories and contribute to wall design.
In addition to the technical and design aspects, Schwerter also shed light on the sociological significance of the hook. He addressed the question of what role the hook plays in our everyday lives and how it influences our perception of space and order. Why do so many hotels no longer have hooks?
At the end of the seminar, there was ample opportunity for discussion and questions. Participants took the opportunity to exchange ideas with Schwerter and other participants and share their own experiences with hooks.
